Who We Are
Juneteenth Renaissance Institute is a community-rooted, Black-led organization
dedicated to amplifying economic opportunity across the U.S., starting in our hometown of Albuquerque, NM.
Through dynamic, free-to-the-public programs, we build bridges between families,
communities, small businesses, and public
institutions—shaping innovative solutions to
grow intergenerational wealth, culture, health and tourism.
What We Do
The Heart of ABQ 6.6K celebrates and revitalizes historic Route 66, helping Albuquerque become a thriving destination where locals, national, and international travelers are eager to visit, explore, and put down roots. Route 66 has been a critical driver of tourism and commerce, bringing foot traffic to small businesses and cultural landmarks which strengthen the
city’s economy and community fabric. This event leverages that tourism momentum by activating the International District along the legendary Mother Road,
showcasing Albuquerque as a dynamic, welcoming city rich in heritage
and opportunity.
Walking events like Heart of ABQ 6.6K improve community health by
encouraging physical activity that reduces stress and fosters social connection, according to CDC research. This event offers participants the chance to engage with Albuquerque’s vibrant neighborhoods, promoting wellness while supporting small businesses along the route.
The Community Wellbeing Heart of ABQ Festival enhances this by bringing together performances, resources, and vendor offerings that promote health equity, economic opportunity, and cultural celebration — building an inclusive, supportive environment for residents and visitors.
The event highlights Albuquerque’s diverse cultural narratives —
Indigenous, immigrant, and local — creating a space to learn, connect,
and celebrate. This cultural exchange strengthens community cohesion,
helping Albuquerque grow as a city where everyone belongs.
By celebrating the heart of Albuquerque through active, community-driven
events on Route 66, the Heart of ABQ 6.6K supports local businesses,
attracts visitors, improves health, and builds a united, prosperous city
where people from around the globe want to live, work, and thrive.
